FAQ
SMP is a non-surgical, minimally invasive procedure that can improve the appearance of thinning hair. It involves implanting pigment into the dermal layer of the scalp to create the illusion of hair follicles.
For most clients, the pain minimal and it's consistently less painful than traditional tattoos. After your session, you won't experience any further discomfort.
Generally, it will require 3-5 sessions of scalp micropigmentation to receive the results they desire. Each session can last 3-4 hours, depending on the area.
Only charcoal based organic pigment. They are all of grey scale to help mimic the colour of the base of a hair follicle.
NO!
1. We are depositing pigment into the skin at a shallower depth than tattoos, only about 2mm into the dermis
2. We are strictly making small micro dots through pointillism method, not shading or drawing lines
3. We use only a black pigment which is much more diluted than typical tattoo inks. For this reason, it won't break down to different colors or look too saturated once it heals
No. The pigment contains no additional colorants or additives and will only lighten, not discolor over an extended time.
Scalp micropigmentation also utilizes different equipment than traditional tattooing, ensuring the needle and machine are designed specifically for micropigmentation of the scalp.
This treatment typically lasts 3-5 years. After that time, a client will very gradually begin to notice slight lightening (not discolor) of the treatment. When this occurs they can undergo a brief “touch up” session to restore any fading and secure many more years of their style.
We recommend no heavy sweating or intense exercise for 4-5 days after your scalp micropigmentation treatment.
Unfortunately no. SMP won’t stimulate hair growth. Once the follicle is dead it can’t grow back. You would have to go for an extensive hair transplant which is more costly to extract live follicles to the top of your scalp.
The micropigmentation stimulates the scalp and will actually help promote blood flow to the area and will not damage the existing hair.
For Men with short hair, generally speaking: YES. If the client is going for the shaved head look, then its time to commit and shave it! We generally advise to shave it down to a 0 or 1 which is the easiest length for our artists to work with.
If the client has thinning hair on top and wishes to just add some density then shaving isn't necessary. This goes for Women as well, you do not have to shave your head, we can always work in between your hair!
We recommend no dying until all sessions are complete, but if you must dye hair for special occasion then best is to dye 5 days before the next session. No BLEACHING hair roots!
Scalp micropigmentation is non-invasive and requires no down time. In most cases, you will not need to take any extended time away from work, school, or other functions. After treatment it is common to notice slight redness on the scalp for 1-2 days post session. This redness subsides quickly and most clients return to work either right away or within a couple days. Clients are also allowed to wear hats or headwear should they feel the need.
No, your scalp needs to breathe and heal properly, wearing a skullcap at would be more suitable.
It is no secret that UV rays can fade any tattoo. It’s perhaps not as dramatic as people think but its always a good idea to look after your skin and wear sunblock or a hat whether you are tattooed or not!
No. We require our clients to wait until after pregnancy and nursing to avoid any issues. The chances of infection are very slim but we always take the utmost precautions and put you and your baby first!
Sessions are spaced 2 weeks apart.
Rogaine (topical minoxidil) should be suspended during the course of treatment and for 30 days post your final session. This is to ensure the proper healing and settling of pigment without interference of the chemicals found in Rogaine foam.
No, Scalp micropigmentation is not covered by insurance.
